One Fabulous Cook,
One Not-So-Fabulous Cook
Signature Spices is the dream-child of Cindy Winings and I
(Christine Binduga), cofounders and long-time friends. Cindy and I
have known each other for more than 20 years and for as long as
we’ve known each other, Cindy has been a fabulous cook, and I’ve
been – well, a not-so-fabulous cook.
husband and I began the process of adopting three children (one sassy 4-year-old girl and two
boys – one 4-year-old charmer and one 5-year-old comedian in training). At the time, my best friend
Cindy was thrilled for us; however, I could see the horror on her face at the thought of these 3 little
ones being fed frozen dinners, take-out, or worse – my cooking, for the duration of their childhood
years. And so, she did what any good friend would do and intervened. She created a cooking guide
to help me with the basics, stocked my kitchen with necessities, and began teaching me some of
her culinary secrets.
The Culinary Secret
It wasn’t long before I learned how Cindy had managed, for all these years, to take an ordinary dish
and turn it into something extraordinary. The secret: seasoning blends. All along, Cindy had been
using various seasoning blends in her everyday meal preparation. I thought, finally – now that I
know the secret, I can be fabulous too!
The Dilemma
As I daydreamed of my impending fabulousness, reality set in – I quickly learned that many of the
seasoning blends that Cindy had been using were difficult, if not impossible, to find. For the most
part, Cindy had been buying all of the individual spices and blending them herself. Okay – that’s
just fine for an experienced, fabulous cook, but what about us novices? The fact is, I know myself
well enough to know that there’s no way that I am going to buy a bunch of spices and start
measuring, mixing and blending away, and then expect the result to be tasty.
The Signature Spices Solution
Just when I thought I would have to resign myself to a life of not-so-fabulousness, Cindy had a
solution: why not start our own line of seasoning blends that meets both the needs of the gourmet
and the novice? And when that light bulb came on, Signature Spices was born. As it turns out, our
opposing, but complementary, degrees of cooking skills worked very much to our advantage while
developing our original product line and later when we expanded into sauces, vinaigrettes, fine
teas, scones, preserves, dip & cheeseball mixes, and more. We were able to keep in mind the
needs of all cooks and offer unique, premium products that absolutely anyone can use and enjoy.
Now, our hope is that you enjoy our offerings as much as we do and that all cooks everywhere can
finally say, “I am fabulous too!”
