Pantry Basics
Flour
  • All purpose Flour - Gold Medal is a good brand to bake with.
  • Bread Flour - has high glutten and makes good bread dough
  • Cake Flour - has low glutten and makes light cake

Sugar
  • White
  • Brown – used more for baking
  • Dark Brown – use only when called for in baking
  • Confectioners or 10X – used for making icings or to sweeten fruit like
    strawberries

Oil
  • Vegetable or Canola Oil -  Used for cooking, frying, deep frying, vinaigrettes
  • Olive Oil -  Light Olive oil has a mild taste compared to Extra Virgin Olive oil.  
    Use light olive oil is salad dressings, Extra Virgin to saute.   Used for sautéing,
    frying, vinaigrettes

Vinegar
  • Red Wine – used for vinaigrettes
  • Balsamic – used for vinaigrettes
  • White – cleaning, Easter egg dyes
  • Apple Cider – used in dressing like coleslaw
